From Staff Reports

The City of Newnan and the Newnan-Coweta Art Association has announced that Cecil Cromwell has been named February’s Artist of the Month.

Cromwell, who is an University of Georgia graduate, originally grew up in Virginia and began drawing and painting during his early childhood years. His interest in nature and wildlife – especially fishing – has also led to another passion: wood carving.

Because of his painting ability and observation of nature, Cecil is able to make fish carvings which are very life-like in appearance. The fish carvings range in size from tie pin to life size. He carves many species of fish, including all members of the trout family, as well as salt water and other fresh-water fish.

Cecil is employed with the Georgia Baptist Children’s Home and has spent 30 years working to make the lives of children better. He and his wife, Maxine, live in Newnan. They have two grown children and three grandchildren.
