More than 1,000 residents from Peachtree City and surrounding counties joined the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s in the fight to end Alzheimer’s disease at Fredrick Brown Jr. Amphitheater on Saturday, Oct. 7.

Participants raised more than $185,000 to fund Alzheimer’s care, support and research programs.

“On behalf of the Alzheimer’s Association and the thousands we serve, I thank Peachtree City and surrounding communities for coming together to continue to help build awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s research, care, support and advocacy efforts”, added Lindsey Richard director, Walk to End Alzheimer’s – Peachtree City. “The amount of money raised in Peachtree City shows that this community is in for the fight against Alzheimer’s.”

Bernie’s Babes with Neuropsychology Center was the top fundraising team at this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s, raising more than $10,500. Bernie’s Babes have participated in Walk to End Alzheimer’s for seven years. The team was named in honor or Bernie Rosenbach who is living with Alzheimer’s disease. Since 2010, Bernie’s Babes has raised over $58,000 for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Peachtree City.

Numerous walkers and teams from Coweta County participated in the event as well, including sponsors Wesley Woods, Kason Industries, Express Employment Professionals and Monarch House.

In Georgia alone, there are more than 140,000 people living with the disease and 519,000 caregivers. In the United States, more than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease, the sixth-leading cause of death in and the only disease among the top 10 causes that cannot be cured, prevented or even slowed. Additionally, more than 15 million family and friends provide care to people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
