The National Weather Service in Peachtree City says both Winter Weather and Wind Chill Advisories will take effect here in Coweta County and most of North Georgia later today.
The Winter Weather Advisory will begin at 5 p.m. this afternoon and runs until 7 a.m. Wednesday. The Wind Chill Advisory starts at 9 p.m. and runs to 1 p.m. Wednesday.
These advisories include the cities of Gainesville, Atlanta, Lawrenceville, East Point, Decatur, Conyers, Newnan, Peachtree City, and Griffin.
* WHAT … Light snow and very cold wind chills expected. Total snow accumulations of up to one inch are expected. Expect wind chills to range from 20 above zero to around zero.
* WHERE … Portions of north central and west central Georgia.
* WHEN … For the Winter Weather Advisory, from 5 PM this afternoon to 7 AM EST Wednesday. For the Wind Chill Advisory, from 9 PM this evening to 1 PM EST Wednesday.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS … Light snow will cause travel difficulties. The cold wind chills can cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes to exposed skin.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS … A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.
A Wind Chill Advisory means that cold air and the wind will combine to create low wind chills. Frost bite and hypothermia can occur if precautions are not taken. Make sure you wear a hat and gloves.
