Representatives from Piedmont Newnan Hospital recently presented a check for $15,000 to the West Georgia Technical College Foundation to support student scholarships and strengthen the partnership between the hospital and college. The gift is annual support as part of a five-year commitment signed in 2017.

A couple of new restaurants are slated for downtown Newnan. 714 Raw Bar will have raw oysters, tapas and organic food on its menu. The Spring street restaurant will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Another restaurant on Broad Street will focus on high-end seafood in a more intimate setting. The Orphan will be reservation-only.

The city of Senoia will allow open alcohol containers at special events by creating an “entertainment district.” The district will cover most of the downtown area.

A Netflix feature film, Sextuplets, was being filmed down at 19 Temple Ave. It’s about a man raised by adopted parents and never knew his biological family. He’s now raising his own family and starts looking for his past.

Students from East Coweta High School honored Coweta Superintendent Steve Barker with original artwork, marking Barker’s term as the Georgia Superintendent of the Year. Teacher Georgie McMillan and several of her Advanced Sculpture students presented Barker a foil relief artwork with Barker’s name and “PRIDE” featured on it.

Blickle U.S.A., has opened its U.S. headquarters at Coweta Industrial Park. The company makes wheels and casters. The current facility covers 55,000 square feet and can expand to more than 200,000.

Abby’s Angels is teaming up with Grady Hospital’s Injury Prevention Program to get teen drivers  to pledge to drive safely. For several upcoming  local high school football games, Grady will have their distracted driving simulator and drunk goggles for students and parents to try. Grady will have giveaways and educational material as well.

Two Coweta County School System students have been named to the Georgia School Superintendent’s 2018-19 Student Advisory Council. Aaliyah Phillips, of East Coweta High School, and Jessica Hicks, of the Central Educational Center, were both chosen for the state-level council.

The Newnan Junior Service League has named Abby’s Angels Foundation as their 2018-19 Grant Recipient.

The four-year graduation rate for Coweta County School System high school students was 84.8 percent in 2018. The Coweta County School System’s on-time graduation rate was approximately three percent higher than the state of Georgia’s average, which rose to 81.6 percent in 2018, according to a gradation report released by the Georgia Department of Education on Wednesday.

Foundation Christian Church has given each student at Ruth Hill Elementary School a new pair of sneakers. It is the second year in a row the church has made the donation. What an awesome ministry and worth two thumbs up.

Five Below is opening another location here locally. The retail store where everything is $5-or-less is opening at The Overlook in Peachtree City, next to Michaels. Five Below presently has stores both in Newnan and Fayetteville. No opening date has been announced.

Newk’s Eatery is planning to open a new restaurant also in The Overlook. Newk’s currently has a restaurant in Newnan’s Ashley Park. Other stores in The Overlook include TJ Maxx, HomeGoods, Ulta, Versona and Michaels and is located at 2760 Hwy. 54 West in Peachtree City.
