From Special Reports
Three local “Nonprofit Notables” will be leading a panel discussion at this quarter’s meeting of the Young Professionals in Philanthropy, a joint project of the Coweta Community Foundation and the Newnan-Coweta Chamber.
The meeting will be Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. at the Howard Warner Boys & Girls Club, 55 Savannah St. in Newnan.
The group will hear from Dr. Kay Crosby, founder of the Samaritan Clinic, who was recently named the 2018 Citizen of the Year; Lauren Odom, executive director of the Newnan/Coweta Boys & Girls Club, which in January was named the Coweta Community Foundation’s 2018 Nonprofit of the Year; and Dr. David Gregory, executive director of One Roof Ecumenical Alliance Outreach, which recently was named recipient of a $10,000 grant from 100 Women Who Care Coweta County. They will speak about the need for young professionals to become involved in nonprofits, the steps to become involved and potentially join the board of a nonprofit, and what nonprofits are looking for in board members.
The goal of the YPs in Philanthropy is to engage and educate young professionals in volunteer community service and philanthropy through short, productive quarterly meetings. The YPs in Philanthropy get to learn about an array of local nonprofit agencies as well as the opportunity to gain practical experience working with local nonprofits.
